  • 1924 - First photo facsimile transmitted across Atlantic by radio.
  • 1941 - 101-year-old Nyack-Tarrytown (New York) ferry makes its last run.

  • 1987 - In the Gulf of Alaska, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurs.
  • 1988 - United Nations General Assembly (151-2) censures US for refusing Palestinian Liberation Organization's Arafat visa.
  • 1990 - US President George Bush proposes US-Iraq meeting to avoid war.
  • 1991 - 93 cars and 11 trucks in accident near San Francisco during a dust storm, 17 die.
  • 1993 - U.S. President Bill Clinton signs the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act (the Brady Bill) into law.
  • 1995 - Official end of Operation Desert Storm.
  • 1999 - In Seattle, Washington, the first major mobilization of the anti-globalization movement catches police unprepared and forces the cancellation of the opening ceremonies of the WTO Meeting of 1999 (protests end on December 3).
  • 1999 - Exxonmobil Corporation merger is completed, and forms the largest company in the world.
  • 2004 - Longtime Jeopardy! (TV show) champion Ken Jennings finally loses, leaving him with $2,520,700, television's all-time biggest game show haul.
  • 2008 - The space shuttle Endeavour lands in California after a 16-day mission to renovate parts of the International Space Station.
  • 2009 - The US Mint releases the 2009 Northern Mariana Islands quarter dollar to circulation.
