- 1982 - In Padua, Italy, U.S. Brigadier General James L. Dozier is rescued by Italian anti-terrorism forces after 42 days of captivity under the Red Brigades.

- 1994 - Helicopter crashes into office building in San Jose, California, one dead.
- 2007 - A battle between insurgents and U.S.-backed Iraqi troops kills 300 suspected terrorists in Najaf, Iraq.
- 2008 - In Florida, USA, the Rupublican caucuses choose John McCain as candidate for the presidential election on November. The Democratic caucuses choose Hillary Clinton.
